The Easter bank holiday has started with rain and wind but the weather agency predicts brighter days ahead

The Easter bank holiday weekend is officially underway. Scots might be having a lazy day, attending mass for Good Friday, or doing a last-minute supermarket run to ensure the cupboards are well stocked for the festivities ahead.
Scots may have also been hoping to wake up to some sunshine or at least no rain, but for many parts of the country, this has not come to fruition. The Met Office has urged Britons not to completely despair, though.
The most up to date outlook from the national forecaster predicts a wet and breezy start to the Easter weekend for many. And in an even better development, Easter Sunday is set to bring the driest and brightest conditions.
"Saturday will see early frosts over parts of Scotland," the weather agency said.
"It’ll be quite cloudy in many areas with showers over central, southern and western areas gradually easing through the day, although some rain is still possible at times."

Scotland has managed to dodge the yellow warning for heavy rain issued for England and Northern Ireland over the last few days. We will continue to enjoy mostly dry weather with some bright and sunny spells.
However, a few showers could affect the Northern Isles and perhaps northeast Scotland.
"Saturday will also be quite breezy, particularly near the hills in the west and along the south coast, with temperatures close to or slightly below normal – although feeling cooler under areas of rain," the Met Office said.
As mentioned, fortunately, Easter Sunday looks to be the driest day of the bank holiday weekend. This is a great opportunity for families to get outside for a walk after their roast lamb or do an Easter egg hunt in the garden.
However, western Scotland could endure some rain on the day, perhaps spoiling these outdoor plans.
Weather
"Most areas will stay dry with variable - possibly large - amounts of cloud and the possibility of some rain close to western Scotland pulling away to the west," the Met Office went on.
"A showery picture is likely for much of the bank holiday weekend with Easter Sunday looking to be a bright day for many.
Honor Criswick, Met Office presenter and meteorologist, added: “As we progress into (Saturday) evening areas of persistent rain means totals are soon going to add up.
“We’ll see more and more rain creep its way in from the west and that’s as a result of an area of low pressure but it’ll eventually fizzle out later on Saturday and through into Easter Sunday.
“Easter Sunday is going to be quite a bright day for many, particularly across Eastern areas.”
Monday isn't a bank holiday in Scotland, so for those who are heading back to work or have taken an annual leave day to recover, a mix of sunshine and showers continues. Scotland will again, however, dodge the worst of it.
"Monday will see the north and northwest remain mostly dry and have the best of the day’s sunshine," the Met Office added.
"Elsewhere, we’ll see a mixture of sunshine and showers, with the heaviest and most frequent of these being through England and Wales.
"Most areas will also experience reasonably light winds, albeit breezier in the far southwest and northeast.
"Temperatures will remain normal although it will feel rather cool along some North Sea coasts."
